Frequently Asked Questions About WCS Software Doors
---------------------------------------------------
Q: - The door works fine locally, but the users get garbage when calling
in remotely. What is wrong?
A: - The most probable cause is the locked baud rate in the .cfg file.
If you have your fossil driver locked, or your BBS software, it mus
be the same value as in the .cfg file. General rules are: 2400 baud,
not locked. 9600/14400, locked at 19200. 28800, locked at 38400.
Q: - I can't seem to get the door to work right. Strange things keep
happening when I run it. What can I try to fix this?
A: - Since there are multitudes of variations on the "standard" drop files,
try the most "standard" of them all, DOOR.SYS (type GAP in the .cfg
file) This has been found to solve a lot of strange drop file
problems.
Q: - I run my BBS under OS/2 warp, and the door used to work, but now I
upgraded to a new version, and it locks up now. What can I do?
A: - Try re-installing the door from scratch. Sometimes OS/2 has
extended attributes that cause problems. This has cured several
problems with OS/2.
Frequently Asked Questions About The WCS Software Doors InterBBS Option
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: - I am the hub for my InterBBS league. Do I need to run the DAILY
switch on the xxIBBS.EXE program before running the DAILYHOST
parameter?
A: - Yes, since you are also a node (you have players playing the game),
you need to run the DAILY command line parm in order to create the
xx-x.DAT file to compile with your nodes scores.
Q: - Sometimes I get multiple files with a *.xx1 or *.xx2 extension.
What causes these files?
A: - These files are caused from getting more than one file from a node,
probably at the same time. ZModem (and several other protocols)
automatically rename the file (usually with a 1,2,3 etc at the end
of the file extension) if the file already exists in the directory.
You can safely delete these files, as they will not be processed by
the game unless you move them into the INZIP dir and run the INCOMING
parameter.
Q: - I get a message in my xxIBBS.LOG file that states a file does not
exist and I will need to move and unzip it manually. What does this
mean?
A: - Occasionally, a file will not get moved for a variety of reasons.
The more common reason for this, however, is that you received more
than one message from a node (or hub) at the same time. Since the
message has a filename in it of xxxx.UNO (or whatever the game
extension is), once the first message is read, and the file is moved,
when it goes to read the second message, the file has already been
moved, so there is no file to move for the second message, hence the
error message. If you have a current *.DAT file in your INFILES dir,
you can safely disregard this message.
Q: - I don't like the fact that there is a xxIBBS.LOG file. I don't want
it. Can I disable it?
A: - The log file was included in order to help document what is going on
in the system, as no one is usually around when maintenance is being
run. Currently, there is no option to turn the log off. If you
REALLY don't want it, then you can add a line in your maintenance
batch file to delete it.
Q: - I am getting a "Score file is corrupted" message? What can I do
about it?
A: - The check for curruption is to prevent "agressive" players (or
sysops) from "getting an unfair advantage" (nice way of saying
cheating <G>). Sometimes, if you have an old xxIBBS.DAT file in
your game dir, it will cause a problem with the checksum check.
delete the xxIBBS.DAT file in the game dir, and rerun the
xxIBBS.EXE DAILY (and also the xxIBBS.EXE DAILYHOST if you are
a host). That should fix the problem.
